Biography:

I am a public health specialist with experience in disease epidemiology and policy development. I have experience in executing international grants which have led to tangible changes to policy and practice within Kenya. My special interests include the use of analytic methods to enhance the utility of surveillance data in decision making. In relation to this I have utilized severe acute respiratory illness surveillance data to fit an influenza virus dynamic transmission model to influenza activity in Kenya. This model was then used to assess the impact and cost-effectiveness of a national influenza vaccination program. In addition, I have supported the Ministry of Health, Kenya in identifying top priority infectious diseases and their specific triggers that should activate the Kenya Emergency Supply Chain for deployment of medical countermeasures during disease outbreaks. I also serve as the Center Director for a National Institutes of Health funded research network in East and Central Africa that is part of a global network of centers in emerging infectious disease research. In addition I am an external resource person for the Kenya National Immunization Technical Advisory Group where I support the systematic collection, assessment and review of available data to support evidence-based decision making in the field of vaccination.
