PERSONAL STATEMENT I aim to lead research in the areas of tropical and infectious diseases of global health concern. I have special interest in HIV/AIDs and TB, with a focus on finding solutions to prevent infection and optimization of treatment to improve outcomes while preventing antimicrobial drug resistance. My current doctorate research is looking at novel solutions to monitoring the treatment of latent TB to improve outcome. This entails looking into the use of hair as a sample for therapeutic drug monitoring, linked to exploration of immune markers of successful treatment. I strive to be involved in training and mentorship of healthcare workers and future medical practitioners. I envision joining the future leadership of the Kenyan universities and research institutions to impact on future generations of academics, ensuring that this institutions become centres of excellence, meeting the standards of world leading research institutions in developed countries, and a choice for future academics, offering competitive, quality doctoral training.
