Academic, Professional and Administrative Staff (APAS)

Workshop Training Manual

CARTA seeks to support universities and research institutes in Africa to produce world-class knowledge and inter- nationally competitive doctoral graduates in Africa, by Africans and for Africa. In this endeavour, university managers and administrative staff play a critical role. Using participatory learning and teaching methods, the APAS workshop equips them to be more responsive to and supportive of research, research capacity strengthening and early career researchers at doctoral and postdoctoral levels.

The APAS workshop is designed to bring together finance officers, deans of graduate schools, academic deans, librarians, procurement officers, registrars, and many others, creating a forum for faculty and administrative staff to understand each other’s roles, appreciate how they complement each other and take action to make them more ef- fective. Through the three-day workshop, participants together appreciate the significance of their work in the wider context of the development needs of the continent.
