SUMMARY:Combatting Predatory Academic Journals and Conferences: The Role of Stakeholders in the Global Fight.
DESCRIPTION:In 2022\, the InterAcademy Partnership published the landmark report “Combatting predatory academic journals and conferences”. This study set out to improve the understanding of what constitutes predatory practices\, gauge their prevalence and impact\, identify their root causes\, and review efforts to address them; it proposed a systemic approach with integrative recommendations for all key stakeholders. To continue these efforts\, in 2023\, IAP awarded a small grant to a consortium comprised of three academies (Benin Young Academy of Science\, Czech Academy of Sciences\, and Indian National Young Academy of Science)\, entitled “Roadmap to improve ethics in science and curb predatory publishing”\, or RESCUE. The RESCUE Consortium focuses on three distinct stakeholder groups (librarians\, higher education institutes\, and policymakers)\, at both a local and global level. The aforementioned stakeholders are crucial to continuing the fight against predatory journals and conferences as they constitute the global research ecosystem. Academies must continue to play an active role in combatting predatory practices; however\, it is vital all stakeholders engage with and implement the recommendations\, both with academy support and independently. This webinar will provide perspectives from three local stakeholders which informed best practices for global engagement. The event will be recorded and summarized on the IAP website. Speakers include Dr. Victorien Dougnon\, Tereza Simova\, and Dr. Kutubuddin Molla.  \nRegistration: Interested parties may register here. \nRegister for the webinar →

SUMMARY:Leveraging AI for Academia and Research Impact
DESCRIPTION:The Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa(CARTA) invites you to the second webinar in the series on “Exploring AI in Enhancing Research Quality”\nCARTA sees the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in academia and research. We aim to start this discussion by seeking ways to leverage AI to boost efficiency\, effectiveness\, and impact\, expanding our reach within Africa’s Research and Development (R&D) ecosystem. Our main goal is to raise awareness about AI’s profound effect on academics\, research\, and training\, emphasizing its opportunities and challenges.\nThe webinar series aims to achieve the following: \n\nUnderstand AI capabilities in improving training processes to enhance learning.\nExplore the potential integration of AI in the research cycle.\nUnderstand the capabilities of utilizing AI to enhance the translation of research findings into practical solutions from the lowest level of interventions to the policy level.\nExamine challenges and ethical issues presented by AI in this context.\n\nIn this second webinar\, we shall delve into the uses of AI in literature review and data analysis.\nThe webinar will be held on July 17\, 2024\, from 16:00 to 17:30 EAT. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClick here to register
