Bio:

Jane Macharia is a doctoral student with considerable research experience in environmental, analytical, organic, and inorganic chemistry, having obtained her BSc in Chemistry (2010) and Master of Science in Chemistry degree (2015) both from the University of Nairobi. During her postgraduate training, she was involved in several projects including her MSc project on preparing a low-cost ceramic filter as a point of use (POU) water purification system and profiling the chemical pollutants in the Nairobi River. She was also actively involved in the fourth year projects being carried out in the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) accredited persistent organic pollutants (POPS) analysis laboratory at the department of chemistry university of Nairobi. Between May 2016 and May 2017, she was engaged as a part-time lecturer at Maasai Mara University where her roles included teaching undergraduate chemistry students, setting, moderating and administering examinations. Currently, she is based in a research laboratory at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Nairobi. Her daily work involves analysing chemical samples in various matrices for different purposes, guiding fourth years with their final year projects and general maintenance of the laboratory. She is also involved with introducing and grading practicals for undergraduate students in the same department. Jane is a self-motivated individual with a strong passion for teaching and research and has excellent interpersonal and scientific writing skills.
