Bio:

Justin is a CARTA cohort 6 PhD Fellow from the University of Malawi, College of Medicine affiliate institute, Malaria Alert Centre, where he joined in 2015 as a research assistant and later on promoted to research scientist after his graduation from the University of Liverpool in mid-2015. He is currently enrolled for his PhD with the University of Witwatersrand, Research Institute for Malaria.
Justin has a strong passion for vector biology and particularly the control of disease vectors such as mosquitoes that transmit deadly infections such as malaria and lymphatic filariasis. His PhD project looks at insecticide resistance among malaria vectors and how this impacts the efficacy of insecticide-based tools such as ITNs. He is interested in making sure that the vector control tool remains efficacious for sustained control as well as coming up with innovative ways that are not insecticide-based.

Justin studied for his Master’s degree in Molecular Biology of Parasites and Disease Vectors with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine in Liverpool, United Kingdom, and was awarded his degree in July 2015 by the University of Liverpool. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Education (Science) from Chancellor College in the year 2011. Having obtained his bachelor’s, he worked as a research assistant at Chancellor College (a constituent College of the University of Malawi) within a Vector-borne disease project investigating the existence of arboviruses in Malawi before going for his master’s training in Liverpool.
