Rose Okoyo Opiyo is a cohort 1 CARTA fellow who undertook her PHD studies at the University of Nairobi, Kenya. She graduated in 2015. Her PhD research topic was: Effect of Fish Oil Omega-3 Fatty Acids on Reduction of Depressive Symptoms among HIV-Seropositive Pregnant Women.

She is a Public Health Nutrition specialist and holds a PhD in Human Nutrition (University of Nairobi); MSc in Applied Human Nutrition (University of Nairobi); and a Bachelor of Education in Home Economics (Kenyatta University). She has over 15 years of teaching and examining students in nutrition related courses at the university level. Currently, she teaches at the College of Health Sciences, University of Nairobi. She also offers technical support to community health and nutrition implementing agencies.

Currently, she supports the Kenya National Nutrition Information Technical working Group of the Ministry of Health, Division of Nutrition. Her research areas of interest are maternal and child nutrition, school child nutrition, Nutrition and HIV/AIDS, nutrition-non-communicable disease link and food security.

As a researcher, Rose has, over the last 20 years, developed extensive competencies in qualitative and quantitative research in nutrition, food security and public health through her work at the university and technical support to local and international agencies. She has also acquired a wealth of experience in humanitarian work from World Food Program (South Sudan), UN-OCHA (South Sudan), Oxfam-GB (South Sudan), TearFund (South Sudan), UNICEF-Somalia, UNICEF- KCO and FSAU/FAO- Somalia as well as Community-based nutrition programming with non-governmental organizations.
