Bio:

Dr. Boladale Mapayi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife where she is currently pursuing a PhD in the same field. At present, she is a Senior Lecturer and a Consultant Psychiatrist at the OAU/Teaching Hospitals Complex, Ile-Ife. She obtained a West African College of Physicians Fellowship in Psychiatry after her residency training at the OAU Teaching Hospitals Complex, Ile-Ife. She has specialized training in Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy (Albert Ellis Institute). She is the coordinator for the annual short course on Adolescent Health in Sub Saharan Africa organized by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, OAU, UNFPA, WHO and UNICEF. She lectures both undergraduate and post graduate students in courses organized by various departments within and outside of the College of Health Sciences. She is involved in the development and revision of curriculum for the training of medical students and residents in psychiatry training. She is an associate Lecturer at the Center for Child and Adolescent Health, UCH, Ibadan and the Center for Gender and Development Studies, Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti. She has worked closely with the Federal Ministry of Health and UNFPA in their effort to promote the health of adolescents in Nigeria through training of desk officers on evidence for best practices. She has contributed to the development of several technical documents which include the FMOH Clinical protocol and the National training manual for the health and development of adolescent and young people in Nigeria. Her core research interests have been in the areas of adolescent and women’s mental health, gender based violence and sexuality. As a clinician, she is interested in using psychological methods of treatment in patient management. Until recently, she was the Director of Programs and still serves as a volunteer to the Women against Rape Sexual Harassment and Exploitation (WARSHE) group, a civil society that provides services to abused girls and women. She is also the secretary to the Sexual Violence Action Group (SVAG), situated in her institution. She is a volunteer counselor and facilitator for the Foundation for the care and resettlement of the mentally ill (CAREMI), an organization that supports people living with mental illness and provides information to the community on mental health promotion. She is an advocate for gender equity, women empowerment and a rights based approach to health interventions.
