Area of Research: HIV among adults aged 50years and older in East Africa.
I am a PhD graduate from School of Public Health, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa and a graduate of the CARTA Program. My PhD work focused on HIV and aging and identified key challenges facing older adults living with HIV that need consideration in the fight to end HIV by 2030. I hold a Masters Degree in Public Health (Epidemiology and Disease Control) from Moi University and an undergraduate Degree in BSc. Environmental Health from the same institution. I also hold diploma certificate in Promoting Enhanced Research Capacity (PERC) for Global Health offered by the School of Nursing, University of Alabama at Birmingham. I currently hold the position of the Research Program Manager and serve as the coordinator of research activities within the AMPATH catchment area and Moi University College of Health Sciences. I manage the Kenyan functions of the AMPATH Research Program Office and work with a North American counterpart to provide administrative and infrastructure support for partner institutions engaged in research at AMPATH. Specifically, the Research Program Office and I provide administrative support for the technical oversight and management of research projects conducted at Moi, assist in human resources activities and the hiring of project staff, allocate and manage research office space, coordinate communications and conferencing resources for projects, coordinate travel and transportation resources for research, provide training for project teams, and ensure institutional reporting requirements are met, as well as adherence to sponsor and institutional policies. I am also a member of the ethics committee at Moi – Moi University/Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Institutional Research Ethics Committee (IREC). As a member, I provide proposal reviews and sit in the committee that make decisions on the submitted proposals. I also co-facilitate the training on Responsible Conduct of Research for IRB members and Researchers at Moi University, College of Health Sciences. I have held (since 2013) a position of a part-time Lecturer at the Department of Behavioral Sciences and teach and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students at the School of Medicine.
