Biography:

I am a CARTA PhD Fellow and PhD student at School of Public Health, University of Witwatersrand in South Africa. I hold a Masters Degree in Public Health (Epidemiology and Disease Control) from Moi University and an undergraduate Degree in BSc. Environmental Health from the same institution. I also hold diploma certificate in Promoting Enhanced Research Capacity (PERC) for Global Health offered by the School of Nursing, University of Alabama at Birmingham. As an assistant Lecturer at School of Medicine, Department of Behavioral Sciences, I teach the following courses to MMED and MSc students Research Methods, Epidemiology and Proposal writing. I also teach Community Based Education Service (COBES) Course to undergraduate students undertaking in their Third and Fourth year of their studies. I have also worked in health research for eight (8) years at the Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare (AMPATH) http://www.ampathkenya.org/ Research Program. As the Moi University Research Program Manager for the AMPATH Program, I serve as the coordinator of all research activities within the AMPATH catchment area. I manage the Kenyan functions of the AMPATH Research Program Office and work with a North American counterpart to provide administrative and infrastructure support for partner institutions engaged in research at AMPATH. Specifically, I provide administrative support for the technical oversight and management of research projects conducted at Moi, assist in human resources activities and the hiring of project staff, allocate and manage research office space, coordinate communications and conferencing resources for projects, coordinate travel and transportation resources for research, provide training for project teams, develop policies and ensure institutional reporting requirements are met, as well as adherence to sponsor and institutional policies. I also serve as a member of Moi University and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Institutional Research Ethics Committee (IREC). As a member, I have been involved in facilitating training of IREC members in an international online training course, CITI, for IRB members among other capacity development trainings. I have also developed forms that were adopted for standard use at the Moi IREC.
