The University of the Witwatersrand was granted full university status in 1922. Today, with five faculties (Commerce, Law and Management; Engineering and the Built Environment; Health Sciences; Humanities; Science) and 33 schools, Wits offers approximately 3 400 courses to 40,259 students. Over a third of the student body comprises postgraduate students.
