Pierre Munezero
Biography
Pierre is an Immunologist with interest in the intersection of immunology, microbiology, genomics, and bioinformatics. He serves as an Assistant Lecturer of immunology and microbiology in the Department of Microbiology and Parasitology at the University of Rwanda. He also supervises students in the Department of Pharmacy.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Laboratory Sciences from the Institute of Applied Sciences, and a Master of Science in Cellular and Molecular Immunology from the Institute of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Biotechnology from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, through the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship.
Pierre is particularly interested in investigating the microbial and immunological factors contributing to the persistence of podoconiosis in Rwanda, despite awareness and intervention efforts. By studying the role of microbial dysbiosis, virulence factors, and immunological factors, his goal is to provide insights that can inform disease control strategies and evidence-based public health interventions.
