Biography

A Lecturer/Researcher in the Department of Demography and Social Statistics, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria; and a Visiting Researcher with the Programme in Demography and Population Studies, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. Sunday holds a PhD in Demography and Population Studies from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. Dr. Adedini is a recipient of a number of academic laurels and fellowships, including Fogarty Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship, CARTA PhD Fellowship, Wits University Postgraduate Merit Award, among others. He has published extensively in many high-impact journals in the fields of demography and public health. He has previously served as Expert Resource Person for the National Population Commission, Nigeria, on the computation and presentation of life tables and population projections for Nigeria. He also worked as Independent Consultant for UNFPA in South Sudan. He was actively involved in the Nigerian Urban Reproductive Health Initiative’s formative research. He collaborated with African Population and Health Research Centre, Nairobi, Kenya on qualitative study on perception about quality of maternity care in Nigeria. He has also worked with other organizations on short or long term basis, including International Organization for Migration, South Africa; UNFPA, South Africa; and Centre for Research Evaluation and Resources Development (CRERD), Nigeria. He has more than one decade of teaching and research – investigating population and public health problems confronting the sub-Saharan Africa, and has made spirited efforts towards addressing the region’s population and public health challenges through teaching, research, programmes evaluation and community engagements. As health demographer, his on-going research works are in the areas of maternal and child health, reproductive health, mortality studies, family demography and demographic estimations.
