Hellen Butungi

Biography

Hellen is an academic and researcher with training in biochemistry and bioinformatics. She is an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry and Systems Biology, College of Natural Sciences at Makerere University, where she teaches undergraduate biochemistry courses, bioinformatics for graduate students, and contributes to curriculum development.

Hellen holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Bioinformatics. Her work combines laboratory, field-based, and community-engaged research, particularly in malaria studies. Her research interests focus on microbial genomics, with a particular emphasis on optimizing microbial enzymes for wound healing and improving human health.
