Biography

Rebecca is a Pediatric Ophthalmologist and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Ophthalmology, School of Medicine at Makerere University, where she teaches, leads the department’s research directorate, and mentors emerging researchers. She has extensive experience in pediatric ophthalmology, including retinopathy of prematurity and cerebral visual impairment.

Rebecca holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, a Master of Medicine in Ophthalmology, and a Fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology. She is also a Fellow at the Centre for Health Equity in Surgery and Anaesthesia at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Her doctoral research focuses on using oculomics and machine learning to predict preeclampsia disease severity and its long-term sequelae among pregnant women in Uganda.
